The Tolix chair, also known as the Chair A, dates back to 1934 when it was first designed. Its inventor, Xavier Pauchard, was a 27-year-old from Le Morvan. After years of experimentation, Xavier succeeded in protecting metals from oxidation using galvanizing technology, which led him to manufacture metal furniture for outdoor use, founding his own company, Tolix.
Originally conceived for outdoor use, the Tolix chair features three holes in the seat to allow rainwater to drain. It also has a slim structure that allows up to 25 chairs to be stacked, making it ideal for the hospitality industry.
These chairs became a hit in Parisian restaurants and cafés, as they appreciated their lightness, durability, and functionality. Later, the industrial-style Tolix chairs even became a success in offices, factories, and hospitals worldwide.
